Pittswood Birds

All the exciting migrant species of yesterday had moved on today, leaving not much to see for this afternoons patch walk. A few bits and pieces were of note though, a BLACKCAP was seen in the Scrubby areas around the Greenhouse Grounds, and a WILLOW WARBLER gave a single piece of song over in the Greenhouse Copse. A YELLOW WAGTAIL flew over the sheep pasture at Migrant Alley, where the SWALLOWS were few, and were obviously the local birds, a small group of HOUSE MARTINS were moving through, the only other summer passerines found were  3-4 CHIFFCHAFFS.

An hours sky watch from my seat at Migrant Alley was good for a few Raptors, multiple sightings of SPARROWHAWK, KESTREL and BUZZARD were not unusual, but a bit more exciting was a HOBBY (64) the first this month, which was watched chasing a SWALLOW.

A few Butterflies were still on the wing, with Small and Large Whites, Speckled Woods, Holly Blue, Meadow Brown, Comma and Red Admiral all seen, Odonata were well represented by Migrant Hawkers, with a sinlge Brown Hawker and a few Common Darters.

Not such an exciting day as yesterday, but that's patch watching for you, and who knows, tomorrow mornings full patch walk could turn up something nice  :-) I didn't manage to point the camera at anything today, and the only photo left in my Blog Folder is this Garden BLUE TIT, i'll have to re-fill it this weekend  :-)
