The dark, damp, mild weather we've had all week is still plaguing my patch, but at least it stayed dry for this afternoons walk. As I left home I noticed the Snowdrops in my garden were about to open, always a sign that spring is just a few short weeks away, and this was backed up by two MISTLE THRUSHES that were heard singing, one in the Wet Woods and one at the Lakeside scrub. GREAT TITS were calling virtually everywhere, responding to the big rise in temperature today ( 13C), other birds in song included DUNNOCK, WREN, TREECREEPER and the ever ready ROBIN :-).

I only spent an hour out again today, due to all the work crews that were out again in the Tree Nursery, and Greenhouse Complex, the trainee tree surgeons from the college were also in the large garden by the lakes again, their bright orange jackets can be seen a mile off, this and the triple burst of gas cannon every 40 mins meant little was seen on the lakes except for the uncaring MALLARDS, of which 13 were seen, and the MOORHENS of which two were chasing about on the water, I did hear the KINGFISHER again, but couldn't see it.

I had a look round the Wet Woods to see if any Teal were about, but none were seen today, a group of 10+ LONG TAILED TITS were found, always fun to watch, however, I lost a bit of focus today, what with all the disturbance going on, and called it a day by 15:00hrs. I need to get out early in the mornings ! Roll on Saturday!!

Snowdrops about to flower! - they haven't appeared out of the ground here on Sheppey yet, you really are spoilt for easy weather, no wonder you get more bird species than anybody else.
